Zip.ca Continues to Host Streaming for The Gemini Awards

All Nominees Available Online for Academy Member Voting

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (PRWEB) September 24, 2009 -- Zip.ca, Canada's leading DVD rental service is taking another step in helping encourage the growth of Canadian made entertainment. Partnering with the 24th Annual Gemini Awards, Zip.ca is providing online hosting of all video content for all nominated categories as part of this year's voting process. Zip.ca is also a key sponsor of the Gemini Awards themselves, celebrating the finest in Canadian English-Language television programming.

The continued partnership between Zip.ca and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television's voting membership takes advantage of Zip.ca's online video on demand infrastructure and allows voting members easy access to all of the nominated programs, to help them make informed voting decisions. In return Zip.ca is able to further its efforts in supporting and recognizing Canadian achievement in the entertainment industry.

"Working with the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television continues to be an exciting and rewarding opportunity for Zip.ca to bring more Canadian content to the public, as well as an excellent opportunity to showcase the cooperation and support that makes the Canadian entertainment industry a breeding ground for some of the best talent and creativity around," said Zip.ca CEO Curt Millar.

As an added bonus, offering content on-line helps reduce the packaging needed to send nomination selections to members, just one small step in helping to decrease the environmental impact that both Zip.ca and the Academy are proud of.

"Working with Zip.ca for the past couple of years has helped us to streamline the voting process by allowing members to view full episodes of nominated programs easily and immediately online" said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy. "This shift gives members the ability to view the nominated programs no matter where they are and to fit screenings into their busy schedules."

With nominees such as Flashpoint, Dragons' Den and Hockey Night in Canada on CBC, spanning 25 program categories from Best Dramatic Miniseries to Best Reality Program, picking a winner will be hard. Watching the nominees won't be. Using a dedicated webpage, Academy members are able to view over 200 streaming videos thanks to Zip.ca's online infrastructure and technical expertise.
