'Host' Escapes Arkansas to SPIKE TV.com
The award winning short horror film "Host" breaks out of Arkansas to SPIKE TV.com.
Blytheville, Arkansas (PRWEB) September 23, 2009 -- Billy Bob Thornton made the leap from Arkansas to Hollywood. His movie 'Sling Blade' put Arkansas on the map. Of course so did former President Bill Clinton, but he's not a filmmaker. Is Billy Bob the only filmmaker who can grow larger than Arkansas' tiny independent film industry?
Arkansas based Independent filmmaker H. Wolfgang Porter's battle to bring his short horror movie 'Host' to the national scene has reached a new milestone. The movie is a dark comedy spoofing Reality TV shows and torture/horror films like 'Fear Factor' and 'Saw'. The story centers on a kidnapped thug-for-hire competing on a deadly no-win game show. Host was awarded the top honor in 2008 for Best Short Film at the San Antonio Horrific Film Festival.
The making of Host proved to be somewhat of a horror movie itself. Shot during the hottest part of August the tiny film crew battled wasps and braved half-mile walks to use Porta-Potties while the oppressive heat melted props and caused equipment problems.
When asked about his efforts to follow in fellow Arkansan Billy Bob Thornton's footsteps Mr. Porter replied, "Because we don't have the same support like California or New York, making independent films in Arkansas is extremely difficult but we will continue to show it can be done! Getting Host on Spike TV.com is a great step forward in getting our work out to mainstream audiences."
