As part of its continuing effort to lead new media initiatives in higher education, Boston University recently added professional quality 3D models of its campuses to Google Earth(tm). With these highly detailed 3D models created by concept3D, BU has one of the most detailed campus models in Google Earth(tm) today.

Boston, Massachusetts (PRWEB) September 24, 2009 -- As part of its continuing effort to lead new media initiatives in higher education, Boston University recently added professional quality 3D models of its campuses to Google Earth(TM). With these highly detailed 3D models created by concept3D, BU has one of the most detailed campus models in Google Earth(TM) today.

"The custom Google Maps(TM) site on www.bu.edu/maps/ is a useful tool for students, recruits, alumni, teachers and others to find their way around campus. After seeing other multimedia content created by concept3, we felt that adding our campuses to Google Earth(TM) would be a logical next step," said Steve Burgay, Vice President Marketing and Communications.

Boston University selected concept3D Inc. out of Boulder, Colorado to photograph, model and place its campuses in Google Earth(TM).

"We looked at modeling the campus as a buy versus build decision and found concept3D to offer the right mix of delivering the highest quality product available with fast turnaround, low cost and deep experience working with Google Earth(TM). They photographed and modeled over 300 of our campus buildings in about 6 weeks," said Burgay.

With the campuses modeled in 3D and in the Google Earth(TM) client, everyone from college recruits to alumni can experience the campuses and local points of interest virtually.

The models are currently viewable in the Google Earth client and will be available on the web shortly.
