Ventureneer Challenges Non Profit Leaders To Access Holiday Spirit Year-round

The generosity generated by the holiday season often exceeds the ability of non profits to absorb it. How can non profit leaders capture that seasonal good will for use year-round?

New York, NY (Vocus) December 14, 2009 -- Don't let that volunteer get away! According to Ventureneer.com, too much holiday good will is wasted when extra volunteers and unneeded perishable donations are turned away during the holidays. Non profit leaders need to hold onto that excess and use it throughout the year.

“More and more research (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/01/science/01human.html?_r=1&ref=science) shows that altruism is instinctive,” says Geri Stengel, founder of Ventureneer. “Non profits must make the most of that instinct, not just during the holidays but year round.”

In her blog, Vistas (http://ventureneer.com/vblog), Stengel addresses this issue, citing opportunities and issuing challenges to non profit leaders. One such challenge: Non profit executives can set an example when they write their personal holiday wish-lists (http://ventureneer.com/vblog/list-santa-will-make-everyone-smile). Imagine, if all the board members of non profits were to forego gifts from business associates in favor of donations to the non profits they lead?

Beyond the seasonal donation lies the bigger challenge: Spreading good will and generosity throughout the year (http://ventureneer.com/vblog/how-do-non-profits-capture-holiday-spirit-giving-year-round-help), capturing the excess volunteer hours for use in June, July and August.

As requests for donations mount and the economy continues to tremble, a new way of thinking, like Stengel's, may be the answer.
