Amidst Third InstallShield Corporate Identity Change, InstallAware Shines as a Beacon of Stability in the Industry.
InstallShield has gone through three corporate identities in recent years - Macrovision, Acresso, and now Flexera - and that's not counting the original InstallShield Company. InstallAware is a beacon of stability in the Windows Installer industry with its technologically innovative product and stable management - shining ever brighter during the recession.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 19, 2009 -- InstallAware Software Corporation is now the largest independent software installation vendor on the Windows Installer platform, focusing exclusively on software installers targeting the Microsoft Windows and Microsoft .NET platforms. InstallAware products are used across entire cross-sections of the software industry, from one-person MicroISVs building their installers to corporate administrators in Fortune 100 companies repackaging and automating software deployment onto hundreds of thousands of networked workstations.
"InstallAware setups power the installation of the Activation Assistant for Microsoft Office 2007, pre-installed by OEMs on millions of laptops around the world," says Sinan Karaca, founder of InstallAware Software Corporation. "InstallAware is distributed inside-the-box with Embarcadero's renowned development tools like Delphi, the second largest development community on Microsoft Windows. We've gone from nowhere to everywhere in barely six years. My favorite customer quote is 'InstallAware is the convenience of obviousness', in comparing us with InstallShield."
"Indeed, there is a very strong foundation of original research and development behind this success," adds Agustin K-ballo Berge, Vice President of Research and Development at InstallAware. "InstallAware brings many disruptive innovations to the marketplace over aging products like InstallShield. Our innovation is found in both our attention to detail (we're the only vendor to support pinning applications to the new Windows 7 taskbar), as well as our core technology (after a full six years, we're still the only vendor to offer MSIcode scripting technology). The net of all this is that both developers and their companies experience tremendous savings on cost and time - installers that are smaller, more flexible, resilient, and secure than their InstallShield counterparts, now take only a fraction of the time to build, maintain, and support."
In 2008, a vulnerability was discovered in the InstallShield Update Service Agent, as documented at https://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/837092. Arbitrary code could be executed, compromising any system with InstallShield-installed products on them that made use of the InstallShield Update Service. InstallAware's web update technology is secure, and contrasts the core design principles of the two products. The InstallAware web update client is implemented entirely in InstallAware's MSIcode language itself, a testament to the power and flexibility of MSIcode, and ships with full source code. Developers may customize it to their liking, including both the update logic and the user interface, without artificial restrictions. The default web update client does not install a service and therefore does not increase the attack surface on the target machine. The default web update client does resemble Microsoft's Windows Update, providing end-users with an intuitive, reassuring, yet customizable experience.
InstallAware 9 is the first software installer to ship with Windows 7 support, almost six months before the launch of Windows 7 this week. InstallAware 9 offers unique Windows 7 features, still unmatched by any other installer. One such feature is pinning applications directly to the new Windows 7 taskbar. Developers now have access to this precious real-estate on end-user systems, helping provide the best possible exposure for their applications. In the good InstallAware tradition, a single check-box is all it takes to enable application taskbar pinning support in existing InstallAware setup projects.
InstallAware 9 is available in four editions, with prices starting at US$499. A time limited trial and more information is available at http://www.installaware.com/. During the launch week of Windows 7, an exclusive 25% discount is available for all developers at http://www.installaware.com/win7party.asp.
